Classes

Gore Queen FX offers a variety of moulage courses taught either at your location or in Albuquerque, New Mexico. All materials are provided and students will learn a variety of skills and techniques from our internationally recognized special effects makeup artists. Each class has a max of 10 students (with one instructor), but we can offer additional instructors for larger classes. Each class runs from 6-8 hours with a 1 hour lunch break. A multi-student discount is offered for over 5 students per class.

Basic Moulage
Course Description:   A lecture & hands-on workshop designed to provide the participants with knowledge and demonstrations of cutting edge products & techniques currently used by both the special effects movie industry and Gore Queen FX.

Course Objectives:   By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Apply basic moulage makeup and fabricate custom effects
  2. Apply small silicone prosthetics and create small silicone free-form prosthetics using demonstrated techniques & products
  3. Learn about makeup products currently utilized in the Special FX industry and practice with a wide variety of brands of special effects makeup
  4. Discuss creative solutions for issues regarding moulage makeup for training scenarios

Basic PROSTHETICS MAKING
Course Description:   A lecture & hands-on workshop designed to provide the participants with knowledge and demonstrations of cutting edge products & techniques in custom prosthetic making currently used by both the special effects movie industry and Gore Queen FX.

Course Objectives:   By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify the three different types of silicone prosthetics
  2. Use current techniques and materials to sculpt small scale moulage effects in clay
  3. Identify different types of prosthetic molds and make custom introductory level molds 
  4. Identify different types of silicones, urethanes and molding materials and their applications in the special effects industry
  5. Use silicone & coloration products to achieve varying effects during prosthetics creation
  6. Manufacture silicone prosthetics from start to finish using custom molds

BASIC & INTERMEDIATE LIFE CASTING
Course Description:   A lecture & hands-on workshop designed to provide the participants with knowledge and demonstrations of life casting, the process of using special effects materials to create an exact replica of a human body part, currently used by both the special effects movie industry and Gore Queen FX. 

Course Objectives:   By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify techniques and challenges associated with life casting
  2. Identify different types of silicones and molding materials and understand their applications in life casting
  3. Implement proper & safe techniques to create a small scale life cast mold (fingers, toes, ears, or tongue - one per student)
  4. Implement proper & safe techniques to create a medium scale life cast mold (arm or leg - one per class) 
  5. Use silicone & silicone coloration products to create an exact replica of the associated body parts molded
  6. Identify additional materials & techniques to take life casting to the next level

Advanced life casting
Course Description:   A lecture & hands-on workshop designed to provide the participants with knowledge and demonstrations of life casting, the process of using special effects materials to create an exact replica of a human body part, currently used by both the special effects movie industry and Gore Queen FX. 

Course Objectives:   By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify techniques and challenges associated with advanced life casting
  2. Identify different types of silicones and molding materials and understand their applications in life casting
  3. Understand safety issues and how to choose a proper model
  4. Implement proper & safe techniques to create large scale life cast (full bust - one per class)
  5. Use silicone, silicone coloration products and silicone foam to create an exact replica of the model's head
  6. Identify additional materials & techniques to take life casting to the next level

Basic airbrush skills
Course Description:   A lecture & hands-on workshop designed to provide the participants with knowledge and demonstrations of cutting edge airbrush products & techniques currently used by both the special effects movie industry and Gore Queen FX.

Course Objectives:   By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify the different types of airbrushes, compressors, airbrush paints and accessories
  2. Identify common issues associated with airbrush makeup and troubleshoot potential issues that may arise
  3. Use proper techniques and products to set up a successful airbrush system
  4. Use current techniques and skills to learn introductory airbrush skills for moulage (bruising, burns, cyanosis, small lacerations and entrance wounds, rashes, etc.)
  5. Use proper techniques for airbrush disassembly, cleaning and storage
